Spectrum of SS Cyg taken on 23 Sept during the current outburst at mag 8.5. The rise at the blue end during outburst (the spectrum is relatively flat during quiescence) is a consequence of the high temperature of the disk. The H-beta emission line at 4861A shows absorption dips on both sides of the line and a similar effect, only weaker, on H-gamma at 4341A and H-delta at 4102A. The H-alpha emission line 6563A has no visible absorption features. The emission line around 4686A is probably due to He II.
