R Leo spectrum near minimum light

Maurice Gavin

Thanks to a prediction by John Isles in Astronomy Now (April 1999 issue) that R Leo approaches minimum (visual) light of around mag 11.
A 'snap' through a cloud break shows the large proportion of IR emission - most of the radiation right of line A is IR.

The 397nm marker records in hot A-type spectra. The real star image (zero order spectra) at left is used in calibration.
