Bob Bower

Bob is an active observer, but his first love is telescope construction and the history thereto. He has never owned a commercially-built telescope. He currently uses a 12 inch Newtonian, which he built some years ago, in the dark skies of the South Rhins of Galloway. He is now retired from careers in the Royal Air Force and the aerospace industry. One of his retirement projects is the construction of a 16 inch Newtonian binocular, the mirrors for which will be ground from two portholes that were originally part of a German WW1 battlecruiser scuttled at Scapa Flow in 1919 and raised in 1939.
