    Hello all,

I don’t know what other members think but I find it a little puzzling that some members do not publish their full names alongside their published observations on their member page. I do not know everybody in the BAA so I have no idea who someone is if they only use either an intial for their surname or a first name only. I want to fully appreciate the publish observations not left guessing about who made them. These members pages are not a Twitter feed  where anonomity and nicknames seems to be the norm.Am I alone in being a little irritated by this practice?

No Denis, your not alone.  I get easily irritated by most stuff these days, which is why I didn’t raise a similar point myself, but it’s well made and I agree with you.

    Hello Denis,

You raise an important point and one which the BAA website operations team discussed recently. One of our aims in establishing the BAA Members Pages is to create a sense of community among BAA members. It would certainly help in achieving that aim if people could use their real names.

When I first signed up for the BAA website years ago, I simply registered myself as “Jeremy”. Recently, I realised this was less than helpful when it comes to Members pages (and Forum postings for that matter).

Fortunately, it’s quite easy to update your name (I now appear as “Jeremy Shears”). Simply click the “Edit account details” button on your Members Page. This will then take you to your profile page. Near the bottom is a box which says “Full name”, with the explanation “Enter your full name, as you wish it to appear around the website (for example when you post to our forum). In order that other BAA members know who they’re talking to, please do not use nicknames or aliases”.

It would be great if people could update their names in this way.

    All the best,

    Jeremy

Point taken Denis I was one of those surnameless guilty ones, sorry never gave it a thought.

Well, I had thought I had added my surname! My account says its been updated but the display still shows the truncated form. Perhaps the site admin could have a look.

Looks fine now David – thanks for updating.

Many thanks to Steve Cuthbert, too, for updating your name.

    All the best,

    Jeremy

Although there may be a valid reason why some don`t put their full name!
