    Dear colleagues, With sadness we inform that on 15 October at the age of 79 years died Klim Ivanovich Churyumov an astronomer on the Astronomical Observatory of Kiev University. The death occurred suddenly due to a stroke when Klim Ivanovich went to a conference in the Kharkіv. Klim Ivanovich Churyumov world-famous scientist of cometary astronomy and solar system cosmogonic. Klim Ivanovich Churyumov one of the leaders of space missions “Vega” to Halley’s Comet. He was a codiscovered of two comets: 67P/Churyumov-Gerasimenko – the successful space mission “Rosetta” goals and C/1969 IX Churyumov-Solodovnikov. Klim Ivanovich Churyumov grown generation of talented scientists astronomers, he always fervently supported amateur astronomy. In honor of Klim Ivanovich Churyumov named the minor planet – (2627) Churyumov. Eternal memory dear teacher, a friend, a wonderful person. Alexander Baransky Kiev Ukraine

    Sad day, but at least he got to see “his” comet 67P close up before his passing.

    Very sad news. I received this at the B2B in Chichester yesterday after talking about comets and 67P in particular. I’ve put a news item on the comet page.
