    Hello everyone.

I am posting this as I have become aware of it only 13 days ago. The light pollution can affect and does affect us all.

    https://petition.parliament.uk/petitions/119428

All I want to do is point out that this exists for any individual to do as they see fit. Since finding this the signatures  have risen from just 58 to 3845 as of today. As a member of an astronomy forum as well as here, I have been emailing friends family and other astronomers to inform them of this petition. Unfortunately it has been running for 4 months now and only has 2 left to run. If 10,000 signatures are recorded then the government has to respond. If 100,000 then there is the possibility of a parliamentary debate. Whilst the former id possible in the short time left the latter is unlikely.

This is a straight quote from the petition”

Light pollution does not only steal from us our stars, but also has massive negative implications for both people and the environment.

Therefore, steps should be taken to reduce light pollution, particularly in areas where it has the greatest impact on the wellbeing on humans or other species.

    More details

In humans, light pollution contributes to increased stress, sleep deprivation and disorders like insomnia as well as having less apparent impacts such as an increased risk of obesity and breast cancer.

Environmentally the impacts are even more clear. Light pollution affects the migration patterns of birds, the breeding of amphibians and insects, and the survival of sea turtles to give but a few examples.”

If you care to please sign. So far it has been shown to quite safe with only one email from the site to confirm you are not voting twice and are a real person.

    Many thanks for reading.
