David Arditti’s Sky Notes from last Wednesday’s meeting are here. The other talks, including my George Alcock Memorial Lecture will go up on the main site soon. Unfortunately, we had a technical fault with the lapel mic so the sound quality in all of these is poor but hopefully not too bad.

All the videos are now available here. Apologies again for the poor sound quality.

Hi Nick, You showed an image of Arend-Roland taken on Oct 24 1957 by Waterfield, any chance that the trial across the comet image was Sputnick launched on Oct 4 which survived for 21 days?

Probably wishful thinking but worth the ask!

I don’t think so. The flashes along the trail look like navigation lights to me. Sputnik 1 was a shiny sphere and so wouldn’t flash in that way. This is the picture I showed in the talk.
