The intermediate luminosity red transient in M51 is well within reach of novice-intermediate imagers. It is nice to see a change in a familiar object.
Thanks to Guy Hurst for flagging this.
Here's an image of the transient taken tonight in a very bright sky with the Moon very nearby. I need to re-do my flats!
There's another returning supernova impostor (An LBV in NGC4559) which might be in range currently (It was mag 17.5 a couple of weeks ago.)

There is also a bright nova in M31 at the moment discovered by Hornoch and Zhang. It was fainter than mag 18 at discovery but I measured AT2019bsd as 15.1 unfiltered (ref UCAC-4 R) last night. It is sitting on TNS with no spectral confirmation.
