    Hi all,

We’ve just issued the spring 2019 edition of the historical section.

    Articles include:

The Grave of James Bradley, third Astronomer Royal – by Nick White

Dr George Wilkins, an appreciation – by Lee Macdonald

(Both Lee and I knew George, who was former superintendent of HM Nautical Almanac Office)

The Thompson 30-inch reflector at Herstmonceux, Part 2 – Gerald North

V.A.Firsoff, Man of the Mountains – John Rosenfield

(You might remember me mentioning John’s notes about Axel Firsoff’s extraordinary mountaineering career in a recent letter to the Journal)

There are also details on our next Historical Section meeting, in Newbury on June 8th 2019, which I will be sending a notice about imminently.

Also the SHA’s Spring Conference, a special two-day event in Oxford at which the SHA hosts the Societe d’Astronomique Francais.

The newsletter is availabe online at https://www.britastro.org/downloads/12387

Email me if you would like to be added to the section mailing list.

    A great newsletter as always.

Was interesting to read about Firsoff and his climbing/walking.

    James
