I was very pleased to read in the neighbourhood development plan for the village where I live in North Somerset that protecting the dark skies was explicitly listed as one of the environmental objectives. Also one of the stated policies is that all new external lighting is to be of the full cut-off design.
The plan hasn't yet been finalised, but it is very pleasing to see dark skies and light pollution being taken seriously. Thanks to everyone who has been involved in promoting this cause over many years. I know Bob Mizon has put in a huge amount of work and I am sure there are many others too.

Hi Andy
That sounds promising; up here in Sheffield we have the new LED street lights, can't tell if they are worse or better than before. They seem to reflect more light off the ground into the air. Its the blue intense so called! security lights that really bug me. I have to close my eyes when I go out to observe until I am hidden by the side of the garage!
