Section Meeting
Saturday 5th May 2007
Edinburgh

I'm pleased to advise that the next Section Meeting will be on Saturday 5th May 2007 and will take place at the Royal Observatory, Blackford Hill, Edinburgh - our first meeting in Scotland. The meeting will start at 10.00 am for 10.30 am and finish at 5.30 pm.

The provisional programme is:

10.00 am - Tea/ Coffee - Welcome
10.30 am - Dr Michael Hawkins (ROE) - Dark Matter - The Hidden Universe
11.30 am - Stan Waterman: "A study of some GCVS and NSV stars in Cygnus"
12.30 am - Lunch
1.00 pm : Optional Tour of the ROE.
2.00 pm:  Dr Martin Hendry ( Glasgow University ) "Gravitational Microlensing - nature's telescope".
3.00 pm : Break
3.30 pm:  Professor Cameron (St Andrews University ) "Sizing Up extrasolar planets with small telescopes"
4.30 pm : Melvyn Taylor, John Toone, Director.
5.30 pm : Close

All members of the BAA are invited to attend this meeting. There is a £10 charge to cover the cost of refreshments and lunch. In order to organise catering we would be grateful if you could register with Des if you intend to be present at the meeting.

Car parking is available just outside the ROE. Those people who have special needs should contact Des as car parking can be arranged inside. The lecture room is accessible.

If you want to display a poster paper please let Des or myself know.

In addition the Astronomical Society of Edinburgh are holding their monthly meeting on Friday 4th May at 8 pm at the Calton Hill Observatory in the middle of Edinburgh. Members are welcome to attend this meeting who have arrived in Edinburgh on Friday evening.

Des Loughney is kindly organising the meeting for me and so any queries on travel and accommodation etc should be addressed to him.
