THE BRITISH ASTRONOMICAL ASSOCIATION SATURN SECTION LUNAR OCCULTATION OF SATURN, 2007 MAY 22 |
Saturn was occulted by the Moon on 2007 May 22. From the UK the event occurred in daylight. At ingress, the planet disappeared behind the dark limb of a 6 day old Moon, with the sun was still above the horizon. Egress took place approximately one hour later on the bright lunar limb adjacent to the Mare Smythii. For observers in the northern part of the UK, the sun was still above the horizon although close to setting. For observers in southern UK, the sun had just set. Observers much further east saw the occultation against a dark sky. The images below are all orientated with north approximately upwards.
