Nick James’ observatory

Chelmsford, Essex

My new instrument (replacing a 12-inch f/5 Newtonian) is an 11-inch SCT equipped with an ST9 CCD, mounted on a modified Fullerscopes Mark 4 equatorial head atop an 8-inch diameter steel plinth embedded in about 1 ton of concrete. The observatory is a conventional 6 x 5-foot garden shed with four V-groove pulley wheels (two on each side) running on T-section angle-iron about 20 feet long, rolling off to the north-west. Next to the telescope is a PC networked to a PC in my study.
