Nova in M31 – discovery

Nova in M31, discovered 2003 September 17.

 

Discovered on unfiltered CCD images taken on September 17.160 and 20.054 UT. The new object (mag. 18.1) is located at R.A. 0h 42m 59s.84, Dec. +41º 03' 33".9 (equinox 2000.0), approximately 175" east and 755" south of the centre of M31. It is not present on images obtained on 2002 September 28 (limiting mag. 20.0) or 2003 August 2 and 31 (limiting mag. 19.5), nor on 1989 Palomar Sky Survey red or blue plates. A confirmation image was obtained by O. Trondal (Oslo) on September 20.119.
