All who attended the Portsmouth "CfDS 2006" dark-sky symposium agreed that in its organisation, logistics and variety of programme, it was a good one! Delegates from the UK and many other countries went away informed and inspired. Lembit Opik MP, Robert Key MP and an array of speakers explored many avenues of the dark-sky debate, and at least two of the audience have now become committed CfDS local officers.

Our thrust now will be the toughening up of the lighting clauses of the Clean Environments Act, much discussed at the symposium for its lack-lustre approach to the problem of intrusive light, and the pursuance of the promised DEFRA planning directive PPS23, which will require local authorities to take the prevention of light pollution into account when granting permission for new developments.

The presentations given at the conference are now available (in MS Powerpoint and Acroread PDF formats) from our presentations page.
