Lost in Light
I'll tell you about birds that sing
all night;
bending their sound
to signal security light - fooled feathered friends.
The stage is set for day, floodlit in polished green.
Strike up the warbling players; their eyes
fixed open, glint. Small throats force, close tight
and force again; telling tales of protest:
a life in overtime
under an awkward moon,
hidden stars.
